Problem
Dell, a major computer manufacturer, needed a way to track revenue associated with
different marketing campaigns, decentralize the creation of new campaigns, and run
reports showing the effectiveness of campaigns.
Solution
Cobb Information Systems, Inc. designed a method for tracking clicks on links to
Dells site through banner ads, affiliate shopping sites, and mass e-mails.
These clicks are tied to sales on Dells site so marketers can directly measure
the effectiveness of a campaign. To decentralize the creation of campaigns, Cobb
Information Systems, Inc. created a front end for building URLs so users can create
new campaigns themselves.

Results
The system has opened up new possibilities for marketing campaign evaluation that
was previously impossible to track. The system has also more than paid for itself
through reductions in staff time required to generate new campaigns and track success
or failure.
