Service Electronics
Problem
Service Electronics, a computer refurbisher and parts reseller, needed a system
for tracking computers coming in for clean up or teardown. The system would be run
at 50 stations on the factory floor and would be designed with minimal keyboard
input and maximum simplicity in mind to speed up the workflow and reduce data entry
errors.
Solution
Cobb Information Systems, Inc. created an Access front end to a SQL Server database
which uses bar codes and touch-screen monitors as the primary means of user interaction.
Another unique feature is the archiving process to move old records to another database
to keep the volume of records from affecting performance.
Technology Used
Access, SQL Server, Bar Codes/Scanners, Touch-Screen Monitors
Results
The system handles 2,500 computers and parts a day as they move through either the
refurbishing or teardown process. The system has replaced a paper system that was
much more error-prone and required more training of the factory workers.
